i was looking to get a oceanic biocube HQI 29gal. i was wondering if anyone here has used oceanic biocubes and if you could tell me if they are a good investment as far as performance, etc.

As far as I know, the HQi system has only been available for about 6-8 months. All of the ones we have sold have come back with great feedback. This system also comes with the Oceanic Nano Protein Skimmer. Pretty Nice package.

yeah i think the whole setup is like $400 wich i think is a great price for what all comes with the kit.im going to have to get it soon the only thing im a little worried about it overheating.

I've had the biocube HQI for about 1 month now and I love it. Temp in the apt. stays around 78 so with the top on at night the water temp is about 78. After being on about 8 hours with the top on I've never seen it hit 81 degrees. As far as the light overheating it does have a small fan. Mine stays on about 8 hours a day and I haven't had any problems yet. The MH is pretty bright and I might replace the bulb with a 20K to get more blue tint. I also picked up cheap LEDs from ebay for like $21 for my moonlighting. What little coral I have seems to be doing fairly well with the light.

My friend purchased this setup about six months ago, and it has been great. He mentioned that if you keep the glass top on, it will tend to overheat in the summer. Once you remove that, it rarely gets about 78. Coral growth has been really good as well.

Do some searches on BC29 splits & failures...

After mine split and I told my story, seems like it happened more than I realized.

one of the first post i read on this site was about a guy waking up to the sound of water coming out of his bio cube

ive had multiple biocubes for the last 3 years or so, not one issue. never had a ballast out, pump out, or anything. ONE of my biocubes had some ridiculously dim leds for some reason. i spent like 15 bucks on a single 1 watt led and its the brightest of all my cube nows. the only biocube ive ever heard of splitting or cracking was on this site, but it was drilled and running a sump; the back glass cracked.
