Allen at Atlanta reef just let me borrow a trap. Its a manual release gate trap so I'll have to sit there and look out for it and release the gate once its in there. I guess I'll try to catch it and if It don't come out within the next few days than I can only think of one of two things. Either its full after eating some of my snails for its dead. If thats the case I'm hoping its dead. Sorry if that sounded mean, but as I stated before. My current life stock is worth way more than an octopus that I didn't even want.

One idea you can try for getting it out is draining the tank down 3/4 of the way, careful not to disturb the sandbed, and assuming it is above the water line he'll release and be easy to catch. And don't worry about your coral, the will be ok out of water. Think of it as low tide for your tank.
Sounds like a good idea but I'll need something to hold 100 gallon of water while I go that. I also have a lot of caves in my rock work and if he's hiding somewhere in the back. Even with the water drained and he jumps out. I won't even see him. Too many blind spots

An octopus produces approximately three times more ammonia than a fish of a similar mass; partly due to it's having three hearts and therefore three times the oxygen requirement of fish. As a result oxygen levels should always be kept as high as possible. To do this (and to remove all the excess waste) always use oversized filters and skimmers. When an octopus feels threatened it may eject viscous ink as a smoke screen. Although it is not poisonous it can and will coat gills and this may lead to asphyxiation. The ink can often be removed by catching it in a fine net but protein skimmers and good quality carbon is a must have! Always work slowly to avoid startling a new octopus.
Salinity is the other water quality parameter that must be controlled carefully. It is of paramount importance that the octopus aquarium has full strength seawater. Aim for 1.026 at all times, a lower salinity will kill them.

Thanks for the info gnashty! I set a trap last night and I sat their for nearly 3 hours looking at it (until 2am) to see if the octopus would come out with no luck. So I decided to go to bed. I checked it in the morning when I got up for work at 6am but the bait I put in the trap was untouched. I think it may be dead. If thats the save then I hope my CUC does a good job at getting rid of it.
I give up trying to fish the octopus out. I've spent 3 hours a night for 2 nights now trying to trap it with no luck to catching it. I don't even see the thing so I don't know if its even alive or not. I guess I'll just leave it be! :sad:
Hnguyen, First, thank you for your service to our country! 2nd, good luck w/ catching the octopus. I've always heard that they are impossible to keep in a tank . . . I would have expected him to climb out by now and get stuck outside the tank.

Back on subject, I think Fish Scales has offered to come and help me catch the little booger. I hope we can do it! I'm starting to see a lot of dead snails on my sand bed now. More than I care to have. I just hope it doesn't develop a taste for cleaner shrimp anytime soon. :yuk:

Been doing a little reading on TONMO, not sure why but im kinda dedicated to you catching this thing and have literally spent an hour or 2 of net time researching catching methods
