Octopus

If you're interested in an octopus, I'm interested to see what kind of setup you have for it. I don't have a lead on anything but if you could post the octopus tank in the "Member Tank" section I'd be really interested in seeing what you've got going on.

I won't be home for a few days but I can definitely tell you how to octo proof, I've owned octopus for yrs now. Never had one escape. Currently the one I have is in a 70ish bow front . The lid is the standard glass lid. The back plastic strip has two drilled holes where I run the air lines into which is also sealed with silicone around the drilled holes. My filter is a marine land submersible filter works amazing. As for the cord that runs from that I cut a half inch back with a razor blade into the plastic strip. At the end of that cut I drilled a hole for the cord so slide the cord through my cut into that drilled hole and silicone that as well. After all that is done I'm completely done sealing exit points. This simple process has worked with 5 different octopus I have owned and the one I have now

The mimic is nice. What are you thinking?
The problem I've found with the mimic is the price tag because of how they change pattern and form but life expectancy for that price is no go for me. Now if your talking blue ring there life is much better still price is around the same but atleast it lives longer much longer. Most ppl won't have them but I've done well with them with literally no issues. Key to that is not to get complacent or to comfortable with them always be on guard when going into there environment. But for the most part there very entertaining to watch . That goes for any species. They all vary on personality my current one has learned a few things from me. Like when I cut on the blue lights he knows to come out them I tap on one corner of the glass that's when he knows it's time to come up for a meal.i change the habit setup once a month adding and removing play object,s and tunnels and caves

How large are you looking for? I’m curious.
Something along the size of a football. Pretty much anything that isn't a dwarf mainly because life expectancy. I have owned a caribbean which actually lived 1 yr 4 months pretty dang good life. But it's hard to get one as a baby ,that's really the only way to insure somewhat of a decent life expectancy.

One other thing I wanted to throw out there. I've had ppl tell me they never see there's it's stays hidden. One thing that can be done is using a red light for it. That can't see red so they think it's night and that generally when you see them most. Mine is also setup facing the tv in the living room. I noticed they really do enjoy watch tv. Mine will hang on the front of the glass and just watch tv

I’ve always wanted to get octopus but the short life span (6months - 1 year) is a downer for me.

Sounded like you might want to go with the blue ring?
