We do need to respect MAP pricing. However, this doesn't prevent the seller from offering incentives such as a small discount, free shipping or offering freebies with purchase.

And a bit of grey area (this statement may be incorrect)... sellers could offer discounts on MAP items (Manufacturers Advertised Price) as long as this price was not advertised to the general public. Which brings up the question: Is a power buy by club members "advertised pricing".

But go back to my original statement. We did an Neptune PB in Sep 2009, I believe we saved about 15%, got free shipping, and stayed within the MAP guidelines... It can be done.

If can tell you right no no store will risk their ability to sell a product for this club, nor should we ever expect them to.

Alright everyone...get these MAP discussions out of my thread!!! They never end well.

I will not be persuing the companies listed above. If someone really wants a $400 powerhead or controller, they are not going to let $20 stand in there way to hold out for a possible power buy. Just my opinion...

The buys have to be all about PARTICIPATION - that is why I would like to focus on things we use/need on a very regular basis.

I didn't read through the whole thread, so if this has been suggested I apologize. What about setting up quarterly BRS group buys? I read the details on their site and it doesn't look difficult to setup and only requires a small number to participate to get the savings.

As mentioned salt would be cool once or twice a year. Frozen food? I like the idea of pumps and skimmers too. What would be nice is a tentative schedule for the year so people can plan for it.

I just bought a new tank so I need a bunch of stuff but I can only afford a little at a time. It would be nice to know that the club is planning on trying, key word trying, to get a skimmer power buy in say September. That lets me know to hold out in case a power buy can be arranged. If it happens great. If not, no loss.

agree 100%. personally id love to see a clean up crew/macro buy in the near future.

I have to say I agree with the scheduling idea. Not sure how realistic it is, but if one can view group buys that are setup they could choose which ones to be involved with and plan their aquarium budgets accordingly.

I think on scheduling the group buys it would only be that the club would try to arrange a group buy for that particular product. In other words it might</em> happen. What's cool about a schedule is that it could become an annual thing which becomes easier to manage. If everyone knows that September is skimmer power buy month it becomes easier for the the PB coordinator and members to prepare for it. We could do the same for other products like salt, pumps, filter media, LE coral, etc... Then we can stock up during the power buy.

Also, as others have mentioned I fully support keeping as much $ in GA as possible. Let's help our sponsor's thrive.

BRS is where I get most of my media and stuff like that and there prices and service are excellent. The previous Powerbuys with BRS have really not yeilded much discount though. I cant remember for sure...but they may swing us a 10% discount or something...which is cool...but doesnt get me too excited.

A CUC buy on the other hand I believe could be a substantial savings.

Looking forward to the first one. I am in need!

Any movement on this Gary?
In OP you mentioned putting something together for the Frag swap.
Just wanted to make sure I didnt miss a memo.

Thanks for taking this on!

Im working on a possible CUC buy with a Sponsor that will be available at the swap.....If I'm able to move it along I will post up another thread.

That would actually be perfect for me.

If you are referring to the Instant Ocean and Reef Crystals group buy, that was over about a month ago. It was a one time deal. Sorry. (Oh, and that was an unofficial one not affiliated with the club).
