Is it friend or foe, healthy or pest? I just saw it for the first time, at least a few inches long. It has a black body with white stripe in the front antennas.

Maybe a Eunicid worm? Regardless, I'd get that nasty monster out of the tank if it were in mine!

No doubt. I am moving this tank into a larger one in a few days. I may use post hole diggers now to pick up rock.

If it is what I think it is they will break off and rejuvenate. I may have to keep a nice rock out of the new display to make sure this guys does not go in. I guess I can clean the rock and leave it out to dry for a few weeks. I am not taking a chance on it getting in the 90 gallon with 100 pounds of rock to hide in. It already looks like it may be 8 to 10 inches.

The weird thing is that I have never seen it before tonight and now it just hangs out like it owns the place. The other livestock does not seem to be afraid of it.

I would remove all the rock except that one when moving to your larger tank to make sure you don't transfer this guy.

What is Magma? I hope to pull it tonight. Since I'm not sure what it is I'm not sure what to expect. I don't know if it has laid eggs all over the place or anything like that.

Magma = molten rock / lava :)

Are you going to trap it, or try to pick it up with something? If it's anything like a bristle worm, I would avoid direct contact.

I'm pretty sure that is a Eunicid and they have one nasty bite! Beware! Most certainly want it gone. Been missing any fish lately? Now you know why.

I plan to use my long grill tongs. We aren't missing any fish, it seems docile. The cuc was hanging out around it. Jeff it is in the Biocube you sold us last winter. Any chance it hitch hiked from your house? Lol. May pick ip more tongs and a machette

I certainly hope it didn't come from me! The only one of those I've ever seen was in a 75g tank and that was about 2 years ago. Owner didn't know it was in there either until he started taking his tank down. It was almost 2 ft long! No telling how or where it came from. He flushed his after catching it. He had his hands in the tank taking out the LR and it got stirred up so nobody could see in the tank then all of a sudden, there it was standing straight up a corner seam. He just about wet himself! He knew what it was as soon as he saw it.

It came from the live rock bought in Chattanooga. I bought LR for the new tank from a different source. I may never go in the ocean again!

Will a fresh water soak take care of any worm left in the rock just in case? I'm going hone to catch the beast now.

That is not your garden variety Eunicid worm.

I don't think it's a Eunicid at all.
