ok one last question and im done haha help!!

no prob.--like I said-that MH should be PLENTY with that small tank--if you wanna save $$$-you might wanna put a thread on this site on the wanted to buy thing-someone may have one they wanna get rid of and save you some $$$

o yeah if i buy that fixture do i just put it on top of the tank or do i have to buy some type hanging or mounting kit i mean with it being a 30 inch fixture it should fit right on there right???? also do i just set it on the tank with no lid or glass cover like you would typically see on a tank

Eric is right... you are either going to need a MH light or a T-5 light for an anemone. Now two ways about it... T-5 might be cheaper... Do you have a sump and fuge on your tank? If so then there are ways around the heat of a MH but if not you really want to consider T-5 because you are not going to want a chiller on that small of tank IMHO.

If you go with Halide, you want it to sit no less then about 4" from the water. Too close and you get too much heat and not enough air flow. Also if it is too close you run the risk of getting water splash of the halide bulbs and that can be very bad. You want to leave the top uncovered IMHO. If you want to protect your tank from jumping fish, use egg crate. Again, covering the tank is going to make it heat up even more.

Ok, I have a 29 gallon tank with a HOB filter. I do not have a sump or refuge yet.

Will i be ok buying the 30" Sunpod 150w MH or not? I know i can put the sunpod on a timer but is this going to be more trouble than its worth?

I tried to put this in my other thread but it wouldnt let me I think my computer is crapping out. SORRY FOR THE MULTIPLE THREADS!!!

I have a 175w MH on my 30 and I wish I would have done that from the get go. I also have pc's in the same housing. I built my canopy so I had the room. The MH is in the middle of the canopy with the PC's on either side. The MH should be at least 4" from the water and a little cheap computer fan for cooling. I have a sump/ref, but even before I did I didn't have any heating problems.

ok that sounds good, I do plan on getting the sump and all that good stuff but you know its a little bit at a time right now

when you get ready, chrisjet does the drilling at a real fair price--or you could get an overflow box, but they are noisy to me--I think you will be fine without a chiller--if you are having excess heat problems, you can take the top off--and turn your heater down/off I wouldn't worry about overheating

I'll get some pictures of my canopy soon. It only covers @10 inches of the top (front to back) and I use eggcrate to cover the remaining. This allows room for the overflow housing and return pipe. It also allows me to feed the fish without opening the front door of the canopy and blinding anyone looking toward the tank. lol

ok guys not that i have purchased the 150W sunpod MH.......what do you all recommend are good corals and stuff to start out with?

i guess my question is what are some of your favorite corals that are good looking and u would never have a reef tank without???

I also want an anemone when i buy my 2 clown fish should i buy it now or should i wait until i get the clown fish and buy the fish and the anemone all at once???

also can i have clams with this light??

Get a good book first, and really do some research before you dive in to corals. Stony corals need at least a year of stable tank stability (or so), with alk, cal, mag, nutrients, flow, & lights almost perfect. some are easier than others, so research is best. Almost all anemones are hard to keep except for maybe bubble tip & a couple of others, however, they move around and sting things, so you can't have certain corals with them Softies are usually good to begin with.
