Can old bulbs that have lost their intensity cause LPS to deflate? Reason I ask is I normally change my MH bulbs every 6 months just to be sure I don't shock the system from worn out bulbs to brand new higher intensity bulbs. This time around I procrastinated for some reason telling myself I have 9 months until they are really bad. Yesterday at the 8 month mark I changed the bulbs and instantly my acans, open brain and one lobo were twice the size I'm normally used to seeing them! Is this normal or is something else up?

A change in lighting can certainly affect the fullness of LPS (along with many other things). In your case, it sounds pretty clearly that the lighting change has caused it.

IMHO Puffing up or shriveling down aren't necessarily good or bad, they're just an indicator of change. They generally adjust back to some reasonable middle ground after time.

when you first change bulbs they are diferent then they will be after they burn in..it could be that the old bulbs were ok but the new bulbs arent burned in yet and the corals are just swelling due to the change that JefF4y is talking about
