That totally suck. I had the same thing happen to me when I had freshwater. I never put a heater in my tanks unless it's on a controller. My 20l doesn't have one at all.

If its a stealth heater I would be taking it up with them. Geoff (gmpolan) had a stealth cause a similar problem which crashed his entire tank.

It is a 29 gallon cube, heater was a marineland (not sure what kind)

meh... 78ish....

i suppose no one should do this though... its too risky although i haven't had an overheat due to a heater

the combination of the house AC / Heating + the pumps and such just happens to keep my tank where I need it.

In a power out I do run a heater though... (if im forced to go bare bones u know)

It's something worth considering. The simpler we can make our systems the better IMO. Worth looking into.

Spring $100 for a heater controller. This horror story is cheaply avoided. Or, count the $100 as a down payment on a full scale controller like an Apex. You won't regret that purchase.

Running 2 small heaters versus 1 big heater is reccomended. If one goes up, the 2nd shuts down. It becomes a bigger struggle for a small heater to heat a tank that quickly and chances are you would catch it before a major issue. 2 small keep it at a pretty constant temp.
