preparing to make the change from my 90 to the 150 I picked up last week. One of the first things I have to do is install lights in the 72" canopy. I'm waivering between staggering and over lapping T5 48" lamps or installing 5 or 6 rows of 36" lamps end to end. Either way I will have to purchase end caps, I have 10 or 12 48" lamps of which I am using 6 at this time. My concern with over lapping is possibly creating hot spots in the center of the tank even with my intent of hanging the hood approximately 8-10" above the tank. Does anyone have any info, experience or informed opinion on the over lap setup.

I have a buddy that overlapped T-5's in his 6' tank and never had a problem. Thats the nice thing about T-5's as they create very little heat so i wouldn't worry about hot spots.

I think you'll be fine... the decision to stagger vs overlap would depend on how you were going to setup your rock work IMO..

and what is wrong with my avatar have used it for years

Edit: should have seen hairless cat in the scuba kit looked like howie mandel in drag

Edit: plan on doing a couple islands on each end of the tank with another smaller island in the middle to hide the closed loop. my concern is creating brite areas in the middle of the tank and slightly darker areas at the ends. I do plan to set the light canopy 8-10" above the tank which I hope will be high enough to even out the light cast
