I am going to have to move my tank soon and didn't know if it would be easier to upgrade tanks or just move my existing. Right now I have a 55 gallon non-RR, with a HOB overflow. The stand is cramped with the equipment I have, but functional. Would a 75RR be worth upgrading to from a 55 gallon? Please note that the only reason I am suggesting a 75 is so that I can utilize my existing equipment.

Equipment list:
48" Nova Extreme Pro with moon light and fan mod
Mag 9.5 with a manifold to run Carbon and GFO reactors, fuge, and return
Octopus Extreme 160 with upgraded Bubble Blaster pump
Apex Lite

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

id say upgrade for sure. more water and rr is just a cleaner setup. i cant imagine a reason not to unless money is an issue.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have thought about a 90, but have not found a good deal and was on the edge about how my lighting would penetrate.
I am all about clean looks, ease of maintenance, growth, and energyn efficient. I would like to keep the 9.5 for the return, so do you think that is enough for the 90? I need it to run my reactors and feed a frag tank (soon to be back online).

i could be way off on this but i made my comment about a 9.5 being small based on that one pump running your reactors and taking into account head loss. someone with a little more knowledge then me might chime in and think different.

Agreed. I actually took a 9.5 off my 90 and replaced it with a 7 (the return was all it was running). I'd have no issues plumbing reactors etc off a 9.5 in this setup.

9.5 is plenty. I'm using a 7 on my 75. Flow is about the powerheads. Not return,
It will just get noisy

The 75 is deeper than the 55 front to back, and will look MUCH nicer when aquascaped.

Enjoy your new tank!

Thanks everyone. I just picked up a 75RR from Jenn, at Imagine Ocean, for what I think was a steal. It was one she had on consignment. I will be starting a build/move thread soon to document the process.

Now I have to clean the tank up and get a stand built for it.

Looking forward to seeing the build thread. I think I saw that tank. Nice tank.

Now I can't promise that it will happen fast, but it will happen. That money thing keeps getting in the way of great builds. :D I will be having a few upgrades coming, like LED's, but the rest will have to wait until the BUILD</em> (best announcer voice)
