ORANGE?????? what is this

it looks like algea but i never heard of orange algea

its kinda encrusted to the rock with red coraline
not on any other rocks


good or bad please let me know

not at the moment, but I have. Seen it in green, orange, pink, purple and red.
 
I have had some orange coralline in the past and have an orange sponge right now... no worries, your good!
 
Does it "glow" under actinics?
I have coraline algae that literally lights the tank under actinics
 
I'm actually guessing that its algae also. I have a red/purple algea in my aquarium that glows when its removed. Its the same color a coraline but it actually has a little hairy texture to it. When I clean it off my powerheads they glow for a day or two.
 
it's dead coraline i think. If i take some rock out of the water and let it sit for a few hrs and put it back in it looks like that.
 
I have fluorescent orange coraline from time to time. It seems to like somewhat shady spots IME.
 
well i doubt it's bad and like i said i believe it's just dead coraline. It should get covered up in a week or so. But for some reason if it doesn't, don't sweat it.
 
i found a few pics on google
some say sponge others say coralline or dead coralline
im not to worried about it just curious what it was
it looks really cool in my tank
