Ordering livestock online

RobThePanda;1075490 wrote: totally confused with everyone and there replies... but buying from local fish stores is no better, they order their fish and they get shipped just like you're getting shipped from LA. Honestly the biggest benefit of buying directly from LA is that extreme price differences.

Other people said time wasted? I mean you spent 2-3 minutes to place an order and unpacked it when it arrived. So you wasted like 10 minutes? I'm not exactly sure how that is wasted time. I guess others here just think differently than me lol...

Personally I see no benefit from buying locally, they provide crazy prices. My advice is if you ever do any business in Florida to just take the coral out of the water and wrap it up and put it in your suitcase when you fly back home. Should be completely fine and it's extremely cheap.

Or if you ever go to florida for business near the coast during a warm month you can always just go diving if you have time and rip out your own coral, i believe it's illegal, but a buddy of mine does that and he gets some huge colonies for free!

not something id document on a forum haha but to each his own i suppose

Uh ya. More people raping corals from the ocean, because of greed and selfishness....

What have you ordered from them?

RobthePanda I'm not sure if you're a diver or not, but pulling coral out of the ocean is a big no no and more times then likely it is illegal and you risk your cert.

I don't condone not quarantining but I bought all of my fish between Nemo,
Aviarium, & Atlanta aquarium and put them right in, never had an issue. I just watch them eat first and observe their swim habits.

My LFS quarantines the fish for 3 weeks before they let anyone buy them, even the ones I special order. Which means they are taking on most of the risk of getting a bad or diseased fish which is worth allot in my opinion. Plus, by the time you pay shipping, it's not that much cheaper to order online. A 14 day alive guarantee is good, but it won't cover any other fish that get infected by the one they sent you. I'm not sure why, but my LFS here in warner robins prices are always within 10% of LA prices.

I've ordered some fish from them as well. Nice packaging, acclimation kit, sample food. The only thing that didn't make it was a cleaner wrasse, but they gave me credit for it towards a future order. The advantages from getting at an LFS is you can see it right there but it does come with an increased price most of the time. But hey they have to make a profit as well so pick your poison. I think online suppliers like tidal gardens with there live video auctions are really trying to get creative about marketing and becoming equivelant to LFS.

It's not really an issue in a large markets like atlanta, but we only have one store down here, so I try to do my part in keeping their doors open!

i ordered from my saltwaterstore once. everything died. fortunately DoA were covered, but i never ordered again.

i just text adam from battlecorals, or jeremy from reef raft or joe from joe knows these days if i want something.

as far as lfs i always do an aviarium, atlanta aquarium, pure reef (and used to do a SEA) run.

never had an outbreak of ich from any of them. i just dump from the bag.
i think pure reef copper treats their fish so i just grab the fish and pitch them in the display like i am winning a ty cobb award.

they have great deals and a great money back guarantee if things go wrong.
This.

Just got some fish from them a week ago. Everything came fat and healthy; as always.

I prefer buying fish locally. I like to see how the fish acts at the store, and make sure it eats. Nemos has great selection and prices on their fish. Pure Reef, atlanta aquarium, and the fish store all have a large fish selection as well. Shac gets nice fish in at great prices too.

this is a good point and a valid constructive criticism. I have only ordered corals that I already know of. I have not ordered coral packs. so when they got to me, I know what they're. all corals that came in, though, are well packed but no labels. they should get on labeling in this hobby where name is almost everything.
