I got a delayed surprise after moving my new feather duster colony/rock I noticed that my forefinger was swollen. Spotted three sores under my skin. Proceeded to break them open (won't go into gory details) bleed like hell for a little while. Is that a reason for wearing protective gloves when working with live rock etc? I've heard of people getting some severe infections but have been lucky so far.

Man, I've always heard this stuff, but it's never happened to me. Guess I'll start taking more preventative measures.

Oh go ahead. Just make sure to take a laptop so you can update us from the hospital! (JK-lol)

Seriously, me neither.

but seriously, Ive never had a reaction to my zoas... I touch them more than I should for their health, but no complaints by my fingers.

LOL.

Everytime I have an allergic reaction to anything, my lips swell and turn numb. One night at the bar, I had an allergic reaction to something and by the end of the night, my lips looked like Angelina Jolie's, no joke......

Ya'll reminded me of of a company picnic I went to at Lake Lanier. While drinking a Coke, I got stung inside my upper lip by a Yellow Jacket that had crawled inside the Coke can unseen. When I went to take a sip...

I looked like I was hiding someone's lost golf-ball in my mouth!

Wow! I'm sure many of these issues have been posted before. I never expected such a quick and painful response to the problems some have with handling corals etc. Thanks for the stories, makes me feel a little better! {then there's the issue with running into the wire shelving in my workshop/aquarium support/rodi area and cutting the hell out of my head today) Time to have someone wheel me around and do the work for me!

I have been hit mostly by loose bristles (from bristleworms) especially in the LR rubble. Slightly worse than the fiberglass feeling. Some of deep ones, like Dawgdude mentioned above, can really get inflamed for a month or more. (This mainly happened working in LFS')

thats why i drink beer, yellow jackets don't like beer :friday:
i've touched everything in my tank and never any problamas
i had one of these Galaxea Coral Galaxea fascicularis is that the bad one

When i get the bristle worm sting my fingers swell up alot! and they itch. The swell is so much i can't get my wedding ring off. I hate bristle worms.

Here is a link for bristleworm 'sting' treatment (several pages).

They have been a minor irritation for me, but I empathize with those of you that are more sensitive.

Never had any reactions at all in my tank but I take care with goggles when fragging zoas. AtlOrange that used to be on here got a trip to the ER when Nuclear Green Paly juice got in his eye fragging and I've been more careful since.

On another note, I did use gloves tonight placing my new carpet anenome (first time since my first aquascape eons ago). That one scares me a little:D

Not sure what the link on the last page back said (too lazy) but you can soak the finger in Lemon juice or vinegar if you get stung by a bristleworm.. It will eat the bristles out of your skin..

After I got stung, I did drink beer, and a lot of it as I recall-lol!

Nothing to do with drinking bees or bristle worms but..

I was doing a little survey of about 2 acres.. I move up a tri-pod and stepped down on the legs to get it planted and stable. I stepped in the last leg and BAM, right into a yellow jacket nest..By the time I realized what was going on and that it wasnt just a single random sting, I was covered in bees.. Took off running through the woods to try and get away from them. Ended up being stung 27 times in a matter of 5 minutes.. Wasnt my best day..

Dude! That's like something out of a kids bad dream. The kinda thing you hope never happens, but occasionally does. Glad your ok. Some people can die from that sort of thing.

My old roomate was mowing one day and had a similar event. He ended up on the kitchen floor with the epinephrin pen in his leg! Close, but no hospital visit.

owwee that hurts. well so far nothing has hurt me so im lucky for now and i have a torch and a galaxi coral ive hadled way to much lol.
