okay! i think i finally decided what i want to go on top of my solana.

the outerorbit 24" 4xt5ho+150w HQI.



any comments or concerns that this isn't a good idea?? any BETTER ideas??

These are sweet fixtures. The T5's let you run sunrise/sunset or add actinic supplementation if you need it. Phoenix 14k bulb and you should be all set, don't count on the stock bulb being worth squat.

I'm sure it will be a fine fixture for you...just be aware that they are now discontinued, so parts could be a possible issue if something breaks.

Huh, didn't know that. I imagine for the price of that unit + a new bulb, you could get a middle of the road LED unit.

Not to mention the risk he takes with a MH raising his heat thus possibly needing a chiller.

well what do you guys think of the maxspect G2 then????

it makes ecoxotic's led 'panorama' thing look like something for a goldfish tank.

and it has 3 30w (or something like that. 20w, 25w, something a LOT stronger than a 3w) white led's. lunars, and a TON of other led's i believe.

aqua illumination doesnt exactly seem like it's better than a maxspect G2.

From what I've read, it looks like a good unit, and was actually what I was referring to when I said "middle of the road". I've never seen one on a tank, and the only member here with one doesn't have PAR numbers (yet) so I'd wait and see what the results are if you aren't in a rush.

If someone can help me with a PAR meter, I will glady post results on the Maxspect. I gotta say, I really like HQI lighting and at this point saw myself as an early adopter for LED's, along with a couple of other folks here....and at this point cannot determine if the LED's are worth it, but I will at least find that out for sure - the price point was right for me to try the new G2 unit out.

150 HQI would look great on the Solana however, especially with T5 actinic.

If you want to stop by and look at the G2, let me know and I will try accomodate.
