Hey guys. recently picked up a 75 gallon and think I am going BeanAnimal overflow. A fellow member near by has a drill bit to help me drill but I need help with overflow box design as well as made for me. LFS store can drill tank and help with overflow but I know they are charging 20 bucks a hole and who knows how much to fab the box. Any help is greatly appreciated.

OF are easy. but you need to decide how far off the wall you will have the tank. internal OF or external. come on over this weekend and we can figure something out for ya.

Looking to have the tank as close to the wall as possible so looking for internal.

Drilling is easy. I'm sure plenty of people here to help you. You can get a bit for $20 or I'm sure someone will lend one to you.
a> will have everything you need if you don't want to fab your own box.

@ RealFish I was looking at glass-holes for the overflow but wasnt sure if I can use there set ups for the BeanAnimal. Does anyone have any experience with the glass-holes set up? Is it quiet?

I have the 700gph glass-holes overflow and it's pretty loud. It has a gurgling sound, and I can't figure out a way to make it stop. Its in the basement so I just got used to it

Watch the video on the link below. The reason it’s gurgling is it’s sucking air. The bean animal, and durso drain has an elbow of some sort turned down to suck water only, it’s below the surface. To fix this you would need to add a deeper OF box to you could add an elbow.

On my 75 I made an external HOB OF and used a modified durso style drain. It was about 90 – 95% quite. I had to slide it back to allow extra water down the thread part as I did not drill a vent hole in the side like a durso has.

The bean animal design adds 2 more holes/drains. One style as shown. One is a full siphon that has been valve back, use a gate valve it’s easier than a ball valve but I used a ball valve for cost savings. The last one is only used during restart of the system the rest of the time it’s just there for an emergency drain.

I am running a Bean on my 40b. With the plumbing coming out of the back it sits about 6" off the wall. If you want to swing by and take a look at it hit me up. I am only a short drive away from you.
I dont have any personal experience with Glass Holes but have seen several tanks with them and they are dead silent once tuned in.

Here are a couple of pics of the one I built to go with my Bean Animal. For what it is worth, I wouldn't trade the Bean Animal for anything. Well, OK maybe a million bucks but you get the idea.

hey Rich, plan on having any GHA? How do you turn that deer around in the tank?

That was my tank. It is a 90. I got a great deal on a 120 and sold it to gofastinc before i got to set it up. I built the internal box and drilled the holes. If you have any questions or need help / ideas, I'm down the road.

Chris I really like the glass overflow you built. Any help with doing that kinds of set up would be great. It looks very "clean"

Edit: sorry .... had to

Ok now that I look closer I see what you mean. LOL. I posted a pic of that in the "Post a Pic of your Ride" thread. If you pushed a mower up the hill in my front yard you would understand. LOL

What size hole bit are you looking for to drill. I have one that I think is 1.25 or 1.5 inch...but I am not sure...
