I love my "Dori Fish"! I have had a Pacific Blue Tang (Hippo Tang) for nearly 7 months now and she (does anyone know how to sex these?) has grown unbelievably fast. When I first got her, she of course, became infected with ick. Since she continued to eat, I simply soaked her food in garlic and vitamin C; after about 2 weeks, there were no visible signs (i.e. spots / itching) of the parasites. Well, over the past few days, I have noticed my tang scratching her sides on a piece of rock. I have not introduced anything new into my tank nor have I noticed any white spots on any of my fish (I know ick is internal and you don't always see these spots). While tangs are known for contracting ick, do they often have a relapse? Any suggestions would be appreciated. She is my favorite fish and I want to be sure to get a handle on this before it becomes a problem.

It's pretty common for these fish to get ich. Whenever mine gets too stressed it get a mild case but continues to eat and always recovers. I've never treated the fish specifically for it. Whatever is causing the stress needs to be fixed but in my experience a mild ich outbreak isn't fatal.
