pajama cardinal fish fin..disease or damage?

i got a cardinal fish from another member recently..when i got it the long projection off of its doral fin (like the one in the stock photo)was intact but seemed to be damage and kinda flopping back and forth...now the projection is gone ..the fish seems healthy, eats much, swims all around the tank but the tip of the dorsal fin is now nubbed and grey..it appears to just be damage to me, possibly from catching him for me, but i just want to make sure its not something i should be more concerned about

I've had a PJ in my tank for 3 years now... he's grown it back and lost it, grown it back and lost it... my guess is too close to a powerhead from time to time.
