PAR results for Steves LED's

exactly, when the LED it lit, you can see 2 lights emmiting inside the capsule. When a 2 chip LED has one of the chips burn out you can really tell the differance. I had it happen to me and I had to replace that LED.

I just recently changed my AI units from (4) 40* and (4) 70* optics to (7) 70* and (1) 40*
I positioned the 40* in a location toward the front of the tank where clams are situated in the sand bed. I'm much more pleased with the 70* optics. Much less "Spot light" effect. I found the spot light look is much more exaggerated in photos.
I would be curious to see what the PAR is in my tank. All corals are very happy with the change too. They are coloring up better and I still only have the CW @ 65% but both Blues at 100%

How deep is your tank? Mine is 24" with all 60* optics and I get zero spotlighting. I am toying around with the idea of getting a few 40* optics to put around the edges of the lights to help concentrate the light on the sand bed at the bottom.

I'm 25" deep. Your photos looked like there was quite a bit of spot lighting. Looks like you have eight rows of LED pucks. But, as I said, photos can magnify the appearance. I really only noticed the spot lighting after looking at my own pictures. Then I couldn't see anything else when I looked at the tank.
LOL.... That picture was taken with a 400watt MH over the tank. I dont know why it looks like spotlighting. I just noticed what you were talking about though. I only used that picture with PAR numbers because it was the only one I had. I just recently got my LED's working but dont have a recent pic of the tank with them on it. I will have to snap another picture of the tank with the LED's on it.
Jason, sounds good. I keep forgetting our 120gallon is also 24" deep so your PAR numbers will be almost identical to what I will have.....unless you use CREE LED's which I beleive you will be. In any sense, if you use CREE LED's and have 60* optics, take a PAR reading with those on and if our numbers are close together, then we know Steve's LED's perform just as good as the CREE LED's.
I think he is referring to the lines in the picture. Those are not from the LEDs. Those are from the phone picture. I get those lines sometimes when I try to use my I phone to take pictures.
