PC lighting question

I have a 72'' fixture--it houses 4X96 PC (actinics) and 2X250 MH and 1X400 MH. My question is: are the pc's actually beneficial to coral growth?-or are they just basically supplemental lighting to make the tank more 'blue?'

Pretty much just there to make the tank more blue. They do not have the punching power for much else.

so I could buy those cheapies off Ebay and it wouldn't really matter for that I assume?

You can but sometimes the color won't be blue or as advertised. Thats the problem with some of the ebay bulbs.
