My hair algae is being reduced little by little, but i would like to take out each individual rock to treat with peroxide. I have heard this works pretty good and that zoa's have not been affected, but does anyone know if a hammer coral could be affected. i have a baby hammer that appeared and I don't want to kill it or anything.

Thanks!

Could you hold it under the head and just dip the skeleton ? I did this on a zoa rock the dip really doesn't take long have a tooth brush handy and after a moment or 2 of it bubbling up just knock it off with the tooth brush

I put my hammer in it 2 different times with no problems at all. Did my frogspon too. I put it in straight h202 .

I've dipped hammer in peroxide as well. It was diluted and I didn't leave it in there for long. If you only have the single head though I'd dip just the lower part like Terry suggested.

5 minutes is a good place to start. Keep the water moving with a powerhead or turkey baster.

I would definitely dilute it. Remove as much as possible by hand before dipping as well.

50/50 is the highest I would go. For the first go around, I would dillute it even further.

I did a 50/50 h2o2 tank water mix in a Tupperware and dipped for 3-4 mins .
You will notice bubbles forming on the algae .
Try and pluck or scrub off as much as possible before hand and again after the dip .
Good luck with it.

Tagging along. I am about to do the same for the treatment of my bryopsis. So, start with a 25% concentration of H202 and DT water (75%) for a 5 minute dip?

That's a good starting point. Like stated earlier, remove as much by hand that you can. Plan on a follow up dip a day or two later.

Thansk everyone. I will try to keep the head of the hammer coral out of the dip (so small though) and do a 50/50 dip for 3 minutes to start adn then brush what I can off before and after dip!

Thank you. I also thought of (and have tried) syphoning off the heavy stuff into a filter sock that remains in the sump with the return pump running. Then clean out the sock and wash it. This way I can get more off without changing water during the mechanical removal of the bryopsis. Then follow that up with a dip and them a water change. Does that make sense?

It makes sense, but I would try to do the removal out of the display as much as possible.

So. Exactly how is it supposed to work. Once it is dipped for 3-5 minutes should the algae just fall off then or does it die slowly and gradually come off rock while in DT? I started with a small rock and tried to scrub what I could off while it was soaking. There is still some on it so I'm wondering if that will also die off later?

Same questions. I just bought 2 gallons of H202. Preparing for the big dip. If this doesn't work, I will be happily on to Cichlids. :-)
