Peroxide and hammer coral....

Wal-Mart .88 cents per 32 ounces. I bought 4 just in case. I need to dip it several times over the course of a few weeks.

Are you going to just keep using the same mix or are you gonna change the water up some?

My individual pieces will fit in a 5 gallon bucket. I only have a small pieces to dip. I may use the solution/dip for 3 or 4 pieces, then change the solution for another 3 or 4. This is 100% experimentation for me. I am willing to risk everything. Therefore, I wouldn't follow my advice because, I believe it is too aggressive. If this doesn't work. I'm am Fish Only or Cichlids. I don't want to deal with the work. After 28 years, It's no fun. I used to enjoy the "work", now I don't. So don't go by me :-)

Okay, I just finished the dipping. This is what I did right or wrong. If it works great, if not I will be having a sale LOL.

1. Filled 5 gallon bucket with 2 gallons (128 ounces) of Wal-Mart H202, and 2 gallons of water from my DT.
2. Dunked each piece of live rock with bryposis on it, including any invert life it had on it, in the above mixture.
3. While submersed in the solution (above), I tried to manually remove as much of the bryopsis as possible. I can't say much came off.
4. After about 3 or 4 minutes (I didn't time anything) of soaking and manually removal (it the solution), I returned the LR back into the DT.
5. I then netted as much of the free-floating bryopsis and worms out of the DT while the return pump and all other equipment (except lights) were off.
6. I then changed about 25 gallons of water from my 55.
7. Tomorrow, I will measure my Mg levels and add TechM at the prescribed rate to bring it up to 2000.

That's it.

The skimmer was extra active after this, so I reduced the water level in my skimmer.

I will repeat until I run out of TechM and/or salt mix. How I could get this stuff with 3 fish and a handful of inverts in a 55 is beyond me. And yes, I use RODI, only and yes, I perform water changes, replace lights, plenty of water movement, and test regularly. We shall see, and I will keep all posted for those who wish to read.

Thanks for all your advice.

Best,

Tony

Definitely (I agree) , but didn't. I may give it one more shot in a week if I notice an improvement, then I will perform a DT rinse dunk.

Because you did all the rock in one fell swoop I'd test ammonia just to be sure you don't get a mini cycle. I don't know how H2O2 affects the bacteria. If someone does know they can chime in but figured I'd recommend it from the better safe than sorry perspective.

Things are looking much better. I hope it's not to good to be true. The GSP is coming back, the leathers look better, but not happy. Hammer, torch, frogspawn look good. The RBTA looks great. Still too early to tell. Time will tell.

Glad to hear it's working.

Thanks. As you know..it will take weeks or month to really know. I may give it one more dip (25% concentration) in a week or two, followed by another 50% water change. Thanks for your advice and concern. :-)

I think some of the coralline algea is gone on some of my rocks, but I hope to get that back by dosing some calcium and buffer like did before. I'm about to treat my larger rocks now.

I hope this really works well for ya, I know you have been a little bummed about this crap. Keep it up and good luck. For what ever it's worth, I dipped my Zoe's in straight h2o2 for about 5 mins and they turned out ok. I went full blast because I was loosing them at the time at an alarmingly fast rate. Bottom line it worked and I'm on the road to recovery.

Here's an update:

Some of the bryopsis is growing back. All of the verts look decent except the devil's finger (leather). I will give the pieces another dunk and change more water. Then I pretty much had it, but not upset about it.

Has any one used a syringe or turkey baster to directly apply H202 to the bryopsis? I was looking to avoid another dipping epsode. I do know that I will be adding H202 to the DT, but was wondering what others thought.

Lastly, is livestock saleable (with good conscience) from a tank that had or has bryopsis?

Thanks!

My advice has always been to do a follow up dip a day or two later whether it looked like it needed it or not. I think as long as you're straight forward with the reason for selling, I see no problem with it.

Thanks. I was going to do a f/u dip, but the livestock looked pretty stressed-out. I better do it soon. This stuff grows like kudzu :-)

No joke. You can almost watch it grow. Stick with it and you'll have success. I promise.
