Only going to mention this because I had a customer the other day that didn't realize and was a bit upset after the fact and ended up returning the tank he got.. The tanks they sell are more then likely the new Tetra brand tanks not the Aqueons anymore. Also these tanks are tempered! That means no drilling!

crap if thats the case i need to check mine and return it if it is tempered. the whole reason i got it was that i wanted to upgrade and have a nice drilled tank instead of a hang on back overflow.

I got a 10g which was Tetra brand, I believe their larger tanks were Aqueon though. I don't plan on drilling.

Someone start drilling, let us know if they're tempered by posting pictures  J/K

im hoping the only the bottom is tempered if not im going to be upset. im gonna try to find some polarized glasses and find out if the sides are tempered as well. but i guess well see lol. i might just have to take this one back and get the aqueon one even if its just the bottom cause i was kinda hoping to drill it on the bottom so i wouldnt have any pipes sticking out the back and the drains wouldnt have to fight any elbows

well i checked and mine are both tetra tanks but i looked around for a sticker on the bottoms of both tanks saying it was tempered and neither had it. i also read online that when companys make tempered glass they place some sort of mark at the corner of each pane. but i couldnt find that either. the only way i know to confirm if it is or not now is to find some polarized glasses and see if strange patterns show up in the glass. do any of you have a pair i could use? ive asked around and none of my friends around here have any. i have a buddy in nc that i know has a pair but hes in the marines and rarely gets time to come down.

Hey Brijesh, I've got an faster way... I've some holes saws for glass ( hard to phrase so the the profanity police won't edit), you can use them when you return the AC3
;-)

that sounds like a great idea ben while im at it i should test to see if my car windows are tempered lol oh and youre never getting that ac3 back im going to let it collect dust forever lol.

I've tried to contact them about it to make sure. But still no answer from them on the topic. I'm 99% sure the bottoms are tempered. It's made by perfecto/marineland and those tanks were almost always tempered. I'm mainly trying to find out if the sides are tempered as well... which I'd be willing to bet it's tempered all around. Tempering the glass lets them use thinner and cheaper glass, which in turn is how they can sell them for a $1/gallon.

Just google "tetra tank tempered." I read several threads from other forums about people drilling tetra tanks, and a couple people have posted responses from marineland.

I just got a confirmation that the bottom panel IS TEMPERED. The side panels are NOT TEMPERED. So if your just going to drill the sides for a sump/refugium/breeding tank then you should be all good to go with these Tetra brand tanks. But if you were looking for a tank upgrade and planned on drilling the bottom of the tank then it is a no go.

awww man. oh well i guess ill have to decide if i want to pay the extra 70 something dollars to buy an aqueon brand on or just deal with drilled back glass.

hey guys i borrowed a set of polarized glasses from a friend and checked my 40 breeder and it does not appear to be tempered on any of the panes. does anyone know of any other method to check if glass is tempered? i want to double check before i go drilling.
