PH drop after adding bigger skimmer...

Just upgraded from a coralife 125 to a reef octopus 200 and I have noticed my PH swing lower. Usually runs 8.1-8.2. And now it's running 7.9 - 8.05

Would the new skimmer do this?

My guess is a co2 buildup indoors and the new skimmer processing more air/water is causing the ph drop. Try opening a window near the tank for a few hours. If your ph rises it's elevated co2.

I have an external line feeding from the outside. Only thing I can think of is that the new skimmer has a dual airline tube intake and I need to close up the 2nd one for the reason you stated.

If your ORP has increased your ph will usually drop. I'm guessing the new skimmer has done just that raised your ORP.
