Since it doesn't tumble like gfo is there any reason to dial it down with the valve , it doesn't seem to matter but what do I know.
Also , if it doesn't need to tumble can I keep it in a media bag for easier cleanup ?
I tied the bag then shook it all down on the side long ways and wrapped it around the down tube for max contact.
It seems to work for now my phosphate's are 0.2 but I wondered if it could be more effective out of the bag ?

I use Phosguard in a reactor and IMO, it's a better approach than a media bag. Water tends to move around/thru a bag whereas a reactor allows for greater flow through and much more even distribution/contact with the media. It doesn't have to tumble but a gentle flow/percolation will do the job.

kinda scary if you ask me! even rinsing would leave some leve of irritant, AS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED in PREVIOUS POSTS!

I have been using GFO since 2005 with no ill effects! HAHAHA!

What brand of gfo do you like ? I know there are a few good ones out there .
I have been looking at BRS , they seem to have the best deal.
I'm using the phosguard because I have it and didn't want to waste it, but plan to move to gfo .
Phosguard is a great product for phosphate removal IDK which is better or more effective and efficient but it scares me also after seeing it burn my coral a wile back from not rinsing it off.
Iv noticed no I'll effect since Saturday when I began running the reactor , but I rinsed it thoroughly for 5 mins first .

ive used both gfo and phosgaurd in a reactor with equally good results and as long as you rinse before you use phosgaurd or flush it in the reactor with a gallon or two of water you should be fine. but to answer your original question there is no need to dial it back since it dosent need to tumble but remember with most medias longer contact times means more efficiency

I use both GFO and Phosguard in reactors at the same time. (Two different reactors of course.) I tumble the Phosguard at a pretty good rate. I've found that Phosguard can be much more forgiving from user error with quantity used. It absorbs PO4 more slowly than GFO so it's less likely to do a drastic drop in PO4 that might shock the system. Once a tank is accustom to the use of these medias and the lowered nutrient levels the easier GFO becomes to use. I would recommend you use Phosguard until you get to .10 PO4 or below. Then you can let the GFO rip.

I'm using GFO in my reactor with a slow roll, I guess kind of like a simmer if you were cooking...

For rinsing, I add my media to the reactor, and run 5 gallons of existing tank water through the reactor at high speed to clean out all loose particles. You'd be surprised what comes out of un-rinsed media. I then replace the 5 gallons with fresh SW, and dump the dirty stuff. I do 5 gallons because I'm running the dual reactor from BRS with a pretty good amount of GFO and carbon.

I run the output plumbing of my reactor into a filter sock to aid in keeping the broken down GFO and carbon from entering the tank...

I use the high capacity GFO and I feed very heavy.....I use only 1 cup per week, and change it weekly....

I also use a mix of 25% rox carbon & 75% Large Particle Lignite Aquarium Carbon, so the bacteria does not coat the carbon so fast as that nothing can pass......

GFO, Carbon, & the like are quickly coated with bacteria and rendered usless.....After 7-14 days....
