A LFS in Chattanooga sold me a bottle of Phyto Feast several momths ago when I had a sponge that I was concerned about.

The bottle is almost gone and I am wondering what everyone thinks about supplemental feedings for a mixed reef tank. My main concern is that the phyto feast may have been fueling algae problems.

I also use Brightwell Trace Elements and Marine Snow on occassion. I turn the return off and broadcast it because target feeding has proven to be cery difficult in my tank unless I want to over feed just to get a little to the corals.

What have you guys found to supplement that works well without causing problems?

I don't think any of them work. As soon as you put it in your tank, it starts to pollute your water. If you want to feed sponges, grow your own live phyto, or run a fuge type system with no skimmer. Your water will have a green tint, but that's from all the microalgae floating in the water column. Also remember that not all sponges eat phyto. Some of them just absorb nutrients from the water.

I've actually heard Marine Snow can lead to algae blooms. Have a bottle that I've never opened (once I did some research)
I supplement with oyster feast and dose Acropower a couple times a week. Not sure if AP actually works but I see great PE right after feeding the oyster feast.. Who knows

Everything in my tank really seems to like reef Chilli. A small bottle goes a very long ways
