Picasso Clown/Anenome Hosting Question

My Picasso pair have been hosting a large BTA for over a year now. This BTA is a PITA. It gets huge and splits very often and the splits tend to be very mobile and cause problems in my SPS system before I can catch them. I want it gone but I also enjoy my Picassos hosting an anenome.

I've found a nice carpet anenome for sale (Hadoni based on my research) and I'm curious if the clowns might accept it in the BTA's place. I already know the issues with carpets and it's acceptable as long as the Picassos will host it.

I tried asking them but they are too muffled to understand being underwater:D

This tank has only SPS (unless they decide to host zoas or my suncoral...LOL) so they are SOL if I pull the BTA out. It's the carpet or they are column dwellers again.

You have a decent chance for them hosting it since they host now and with no other home Id bet a dollar theyd go for it...Like Ares said, it may not be their first choice but if its their "only" choice.....

I love my carpet anenomes, yes they will eat anything and everything, but clownfish seem to go right to them without hesitation. What color did you find? Im searching hard for a red haddoni at a decent price...

I just went this route a few weeks back. Had an RBTA, it split, both had continuous happy feet and I got sick of them. Traded the original and a clone for a purple haddoni, unfortunately my clowns rarely leave the back corner of the tank. I'm giving them another 2 months then they are going to swap tanks with the clowns in my 40 upstairs.

But I have to agree with James, the BTA was cool, but the carpet is awesome. It dug in exactly where I wanted it to when I placed it and hasn't moved in the 3 weeks since. Luckily my other fish seem to recognize it as a death trap so far.

The only somewhat valuable fish I have (other than the Picasso's) is a mystery wrasse. Everything else I think I paid less than $20 for. Don't want to lose anything obviously, but not really a rare or high-dollar collection.

Went ahead and bought the carpet. Love it. Just put it in with the BTA to see the clowns' response and while they haven't dove in....they're certainly curious. However, so is every fish in the tank....LOL. Hope they realize what it is before it's too late:D My little clown goby actually dove into it and seems unaffected.

Quick pic right before lights out. Looks to be 6-7". My camera stinks and really doesn't capture the colors. Has a purple/pinkish "skin" with neon blue tentacles and a bright orange mouth.

Removed the BTA this morning first thing and watched my Picasso's wander aimlessly around the tank. Had to help on a tank move this afternoon and by the time I got home both clowns were snuggled up in the folds of the carpet with only their heads sticking out like a blanket. Good times:yay:

Nice! That is a Gigantea Carpet Anenome like my big green one...If you ever decide to get rid of it let me know!
