I re-arranged my tank over the past two days and found three places where pink sponge is growning. One lump fell off and it has 6 zoas growing out of it. I didn't know what I was looking at and removed it from the tank. (put it back in as soon as I realized it was sponge) Will that spong die now? Should I try to attach it to a rock? Is pink sponge a sign of something good or bad. Found another patch 6" x6" growing on the underside of my toadstool leather. Bubba

I have green, yellow, blue and pink in my tanks. They are filter feeders and a sign of a healthy tank. Very pretty too! I have had my blue and yellows one out and they did not die-but I have also read the air can kill them because air get cought in the pockets in the sponge. I was just lucky! I know that I over feed my tanks and that may be a sign of have alot of them. All my fish and corals are fat and healthy and I do not mind doing the extra water changes. I have move two of my blue sponges to a rock, I put a rubberband around them until they attached (5days). Hope this was helpful! Holley

Thanks for the quick reply. I over feed my tank too mostly because I have a Naso and a large Anthias and I have been told they are very active and need a little more than the average wrasse. Looking for a pink rubberband! I have seen some blue sponges in a book, I have a credit at reefs2go and will look them up. I also love the feather dusters but when I buy the large ones they seem to take off to distant parts of the tank (the places you can not see) and later they show up as midgets. How much of a wc do you do and how often? I do about 12% once a week. Thanks again, Bubba

Are they in spots where little or no flow is at, When i find them they usually will be tucked in a rock or on the underside of something. I like em, they are all in my overflow too.

I do water changes on Mondays and Fridays - about 12-15% - I have my tanks packed with corals and fish - that keeps my nitrates on the high side. The water changes are the price I pay to keep them healthy. If your ever in Lawrenceville you are welcome to stop by - just let me know. Holley

no doubt you got the pink sponges from me. My rock is FULL of them on the underside. They are everywhere in my tank.

They filter and are good to have!
