pistol shrimp

so last week we bought a pistol shrimp last Friday and as soon as I put it in the tank, it dug a hole and I haven't seen it since and so its been five days. How long does it take for him to become active? I got him a goby hoping he'd come out but no luck. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When I first got one, I didn't see it at all for almost a month afterwards. I don't have a Toby, but I generally see him every day now. Its been about nine months at this point.

I have not seen mine in months but late nights I hear the claw clicks so I know he is alive but he mostly stays under the same rock

It takes a good while before he will be comfortable or hungry one.I usually see him when I feed and try to drop him a pellet.

My pistol and wheeler goby pair setup shop on the backside of my rock and have been there for months. It is actually a great spot for them because the flow in my tank brings food by them every time I feed.

The only way I can see them is to look under the tank and see where they have moved away sand.
