Planning for 2012

I'm planning on adding more fish, coral, calcium reactor, and refugium...... Hoping to get some good growth in my tank

Maybe we should add some pics Jan 1st with a second pic Dec 31st 2012. Might be cool to see everyone's growth and improvements

Me, I'm hoping to:

1. Finish my sump room (paint remaining walls, install baseboard, install waterbug and sensors and finish my water make-up station)
2. Replace my MHs with LEDs.
3. Run my chiller outside. Need to figure out how best to set it up under the deck, run the plumbing through the brick, etc.... all without getting killed by the fiancee.

All of that is a piece of cake with the exception of the last bit of item #3. That will never happen. LOL

I'll be jumping from a 90 gal system to a 190 in mid Jan. Spent the past couple of months picking up equipment for the build (Reeflo dart for return, hammerhead & an OM 4 way for CL, Koralin 1502 calc reactor, Bubble Magus BM 220 skimmer, JBJ ATO, 4 AI SOL LED's with AI controller & rail mount system and a RKE net). Tank is a 190 gal (66"x33"x20") custom acrylic from Pro Clear Aquatic with a coast to coast overflow and drilled for a closed loop. Plan is to pick the tank on Jan 14.

Tell me about your new tank... Where did you buy it... And, if you don't mind. What did it cost? I am looking at tank options... PM if you prefer.

I wrapped up the design for my tank and was about to start getting prices when I found this one. It was set up about 8 months ago but due to personal reasons the guy is selling it. It's not the exact dims I wanted but close enough, it also has the coast to coast and drilled for closed loop (which were both in my plan).

Here's a pic of the tank & stand. Should be a good looking system once I get everything set up...

That is a nice looking tank! Places to buy a custom tank (coast-to-cost, BeanAnimal overflow) are slim pick'ns in the Atlanta area.

You can get them them around here, worst case you may have a few hour drive to pick it up. There's several individuals plus a few sponsors on here that make tanks.

I need to take almost everything out of my 210 and start over. EVERYTHINING is overgrown and too big. I probably needed to do it a year ago but have been dreading starting over... See first picture for a recent FTS. Notice the lack of open space and crowding near the top of the tank.

The second picture is from 5 years ago... This is more what I will be shooting for... As you can see, LOTS of coral needs to go!

I plan on slowly adding some nice corals throughout the year. I plan on taking it slow, landed a job the middle of the year which enabled me to get back into the hobby, have mostly everything I need as far as equipment. If the job goes away next year all I will have to worry about is maintenance. So here we go.

I've not found a local source.

FishScales is too much of a risk... and may no longer be in business.

Glass Cages is not the best choice.

MRC is a viable option for an acrylic tank.

Precision Marine is in Canton... again acrylic.

I know of no sponsor that makes custom glass tanks.

I don't know of anyone else that does glass without driving 500 miles.

Plans haven't changed... just delayed. All the hardware is stock piled and the custom stand is built. I'm now adding a 50g cube to the system for a venomus display. All I need is the tank... and a stand for the 50. Back to work now so hope to get this going first quarter 2012.

one of the things im notorious for is buying equipment that will last me through a few upgrades haha. The plan is to upgrade to 200g from 125. The only thing I'll have to upgrade will be my lighting. Skimmer still good for nearly 300g ) 3 MP40ws and so forth

I have considered moving my tank into another room, so that is isn't so loud in the family area.

That being said I guess my REAL goal is just to grow the tank out. I have a lot of frags in there right now, and can't wait to see them grow to basketball size corals in a few years. You can accomplish a LOT of sps growth with the right conditions and good stability.. so.. I guess that is my new 2012 goal.

It is possible to find a LFS that can have an Oceanic tank made and shipped to them if you commit to buy (and or pay for the tank in advance).

That being said... a few years back when I went to the 120g display acrylic was MUUUUUUUCCCCHHHH cheaper from MRC then a glass tank. Like 4 or 500$ cheaper!

Would I go acrylic again? I'm back and forth.

Speaking from experience growth is great but CAN BECOME an issue for flow and crowding out light n such... haha.... Yell if you sale and chunks :)

I would also like to know what this tank cost... pm me if you don't mind please.

I am going to jump into my 100 gallon from a 28 Gallon Nano Cube as soon as the basement is finished. I am going to invest in as many bells and whistles as I can on the new one. I will then break down the Nano and rid it of all of the hair algae ridden rock I have and start it over as a Seahorse tank for the Fiance(she knows they are hard to keep so fingers crossed for something different). I hope to get a build thread started on the new tank as soon as I get it in the basement.

Finally finishing my 210 build... it's ridiculous that it isn't already running. I literally have every piece of the system except for the PVC to plumb it. All I have to do is find the motivation to finish the sump room framing. I'm ashamed of myself!

If I don't get it done soon, my small tangs aren't gonna be small anymore and the Tang Police will come get me. More correctly, the Tang SWAT team will break down my door and toss flash-bangs in as they rescue the hostages.

Covert Ops is already there.....

They're camouflaged to match the wall paper in your kitchen

Just finish the 210 man, and everyone goes home alive!

Even Dakota doesn't know who all is casing the place. He has no idea one of the rocks in your tank is actually a "Little Person" Navy Seal. :-)

My quotes on a 200g acrylic range from $1500 - $1800.

I'm torn between putting on headers on my car or upgrading to LED lighting on my tank. :shout:

Either way, something is getting upgraded in the spring!! lol
