Pocilopora spawning?

So about 6 months ago some one (my wife) put a hammer next to my softball size pocilopora.
Just got done doing a water change and have about 10 spots of pocilopora that have popped up.
Is it possible that it spawned when it was stung and before it died? That's the only explanation I have.
Thoughts?

did you leave the skeleton in the tank after it died? and are the new spots on the skeleton? if so than its likely that the original coral never completely died off and what you are seeing is it starting to recover and grow.

The skeleton was removed. The new ones are in random spots all around the tank. Ie there are two growing on my return locline.

I have had a green pocillopora spawn in my tank and had them pop up in several places, including the overflow. The pink pocillopora doesn't seem to do it. :)

+1 on that, that stuff will pop up everywhere. I put a piece in my tank for a month then I got rid of it and I have about 7 pieces growing now.

I have a hybrid of the green and the pink. So far, I have NOT seen any evidence of it spawning in my aquarium. I've probably had it for 5 or 6 months.

For me, the hybrid grows at a moderate rate(green is usually a fast grower, pink is much slower).

Pocilopora have been known to spawn in reef tanks even without the need to just before dying. Glad to hear that you've got offspring from your original pocilopora.

they spawn when they're healthy too, or at least mine looked healthy, with new growth.
