If you've not used this product you are simply missing out. Simply the best product I've ever used, only downside is that it's expensive as anything but as the old adage goes you get what you pay for.

What makes it so great?

The amount of gunk it takes out of the tank along with helping with phosphates. Makes the water crystal clear and there is a noticeable difference in the tank when not using.

"expensive as anything" ? I don't understand. Is this a specific kind of poly filter?

It's actually called Poly Filter and was originally intended for kidney dialysis machines if memory serves correctly.

I believe if you run this product often, it can strip important trace elements also.

I've heard that it can but I've not had any adverse results from using Poly Filter. I dose Red Sea ab+ daily as well and do weekly water changes with Reef Crystals.

It is used mainly to clean tank water after medications or to remove contaminates in water- like metals/copper/organics/etc and color changes to let you know what is being stripped out. Not designed for constant daily use for most systems. It helps to manage a temporary quick fix for some issues with water quality. It can be purchased on Amazon in bulk to be more cost effective. It feels life stiff filter floss. Would not suggest daily use unless there is a significant water quality issue. It does lose effectiveness if left in tank filter and it can then become a detritus trap causing other issues.
