Pom Pom Crabs Mating.

Well, It's official. I have a MATED pair of pom pom crabs. I bought this guy and gal about three or four months ago. When i bought the female she had an egg sack attached to her. Well, a few weeks ago she came up with another egg sack. I just figured they were sterile and left it at that. But TODAY, just as I'm making my morning coffee, I noticed that the two were right next to each other with their legs touching. I found this odd that two crabs would be that close. Well I stepped away for a few minutes and came back and the female had rolled almost on her back. I guess she was giving him permission to take the next step. Well I walked away, so as not to disturb the courtship. Looked back a minute later and they were gone. Looked again for a sec and they had fallen down a couple of rocks. There was nothing but a big ball of pom pom crab legs and bodies. It almost apeared as though the female was piggy backing the male. I wish I had a camera to take some footage, but the only one I have is a 2 megapixel P.O.S. Oh well. If they do it again I'll see what I can do. Anyway, this just kinda made my day and I thought I would share with you guys. Good Reefing!!

My female has carried a clutch of eggs 3 times now since we got our two crabs. I think something in my tank has been enjoying pom pom omelets.

If you are wanting the fry(I think they are called) to survive, I'd remove them form the main display and put them into your fuge or another tank. They hatchlings will have the best chance of survival in a predetor-free environment.

Haha. yeah, between the Pair of Gold Stripe Maroons and the Arrow crab, those little suckers don't stand a chance. But it's still fun to see things like this in action. And I mean that in the most Unperverted was possible.
