Power outage.

After following this all day, I couldn't take it anymore so I caved in and I just ordered the battery backup for my 2 vortech MP10's. Ecotech claims that the battery can run the mp10 for over 30 hours at a low setting (should be enough to keep my corals happy). So If I can 2 MP10's I should get at least 12 hours out of the battery which I think is pretty good since I never really use power for more then 2 or 3 hours max. Good luck everyone that has lost power today. Hope everything works out well.

EcoTech claims 36hrs for the MP40 and 72hrs for the 20 and 10s...

VorTech's Battery Backup system can help you preserve your investment by powering any model of your VorTech pump for up to 36 hours for the MP40w and 72 hours for the MP10 and MP20.

1- power inverter 1- 12 volt battery and a small battery charger to maintain battery works great for me

What I have is a power converter that I can hook up to my truck. Basically your vehicle is a generator. I dont see the need to buy a seperate generator If I have two that travel.

Def tried this the other day and it was no where near that....

I had another crazy incident where a truck ripped the power lines out of my house and needless to say i lost power while i was gone. Once I got home from traveling, i noticed the mp40 was still on after about an est 6 hrs but it was def no where near full power. Now im not sure if that depends on speed settings or how else you can charge up the battery but i honestly wasnt that impressed with it. Set up consisted of me just plugging it into the back up and then connected it to one of the mp40's ( not sure what else you need to do for it run 36 hrs)

I think those numbers were given while running the vortechs at the lowest setting. I think that's at about 25% power or something like that.

hhughes;632939 wrote: There is some amount of hydrogen peroxide that you can use per hour per gallon to add oxygen; however, if you get the ratio wrong, it can be Bad.

(This is actually one of [Large Corporate Chain Petstore Where I Work]'s emergency procedures for a long power outage. Only used it once)

-"As a last resort, you can also add 3% hydrogen peroxide at the rate of 1 cc per 10 gallons of tank water. This will help to increase the amount of dissolved oxygen in your tank. You need to make sure the concentrated peroxide doesn't come in contact with the gills. Predissolve the hydrogen peroxide in tank water and pour around the tank, then continue dipping and pouring for several minutes to make sure it disperses well. It will increase oxygen saturation for about 4 hours."

I did both today. Ordered a battery pickup from ecotech and a battery powered air pump. Although I didn't lose power last night. I want to be ready for when it does

Power is still out at my house. I did stop by Walmart last night and pic up a couple of the battery powered air pumps. Not bad for $7. My APC ran out of power sometime during the night, but the battery powered ones are still cranking. I did take a bowl and 'circulate' the water some as well just to make sure that it is getting a least a little movement. Temp is also low at this point, down to ~70. Fish were definitely still moving around, but tough to tell what the quality of the water might be.

I did see the GA Power truck rolling down my street this morning. Hopefully that means a power restore is coming soon.

Our outage is weird, it is just my street, all of the houses around us have had power the whole time.

Power is finally back on. Have not been home yet to check things out.

BTW, as Murphy's law would have it my wife had just been to the grocery store. Fridge and Freezer contents all had to be thrown away. Maybe a 'whole house' generator would not be a bad idea.
