Pre mixing food

Wondering everyones opinion on premixing food. Ive got a 40b and only 4 fish and a few coral currently. I use frozen mysis and coral frenzy and wondering if I would run into an issue if I thaw a block of mysis add some frensy, mix and keep in the fridge.

I obviously dont want to feed a whole block at each feeding and by doing this i can just "dose" a small feeder amout at a time.

Will it spoil before I can get it used (week or so)?
Do I risk hurting my tank or inhabitants?

I think you'd be okay for a few days. Not sure I'd go a week. I used to do this with a cube of mysis and a cube of something else (mixed it up a bit). Rinsed em in RO water then kept the food in a tupperware in the fridge for a few days until the food ran out.

That's exactly what I do.

I thaw a block of mysis in one container, strain & rinse it with R/O

In another container I put a bit of Rods Food and R/O.

After the mysis is thawed & rinsed I add it to the Rods & R/O and I feed half one day, half the next. I keep the container in a ziploc bag in the fridge.

yeah mine is in a container in a ziploc bag in the fridge, heaven forbid the top came off and got in there. My better half would loose her mind!

Why do you rinse the mysis, you dont want all the other goodies that are mixed with it? or because you do not know what water the mysis were in to begin with?

Frozen food is notorious for harboring phosphates. The less I put in, the less I need to worry about removing.

And for whatever reason, PE Mysis thawed in water is ridiculously cloudy.

It would have to be something they're adding or something specifically unique to PE mysis. I've never had another brand get as murky as this stuff.

What I should really do though is thaw some and run a phosphate test on it.

So I actually tried to measure phosphates, but a few problems arose.

1 - my salifert phosphate test kit expired in June.

2 - the water was so cloudy that measurements wouldn't work with sight-glass. Perhaps a hannah meter would work but test kits are out.

Just so you can see, here's a comparison between rinsed & unrinsed.

Yeah, it's CRAZY cloudy, and has a film of oils on top. The oils don't bother me much, but the cloudy water does.
