If you want some rot protection, use Cedar... IMO, it isn't needed since your stand shouldn't be constanly wet. If it is, you have other problems.

cedar is not a particularly strong species....


just build the cabinet out of a nice veneer plywood, miter the corners, and paint the inside with kilz.... HD and Lowes will even tint the kilz any color you want so if you don't like white... pick another color...
