OK, so i just started over my 30 and i currently have a lone damsel.
i have all of a sudden started to get a brown algae in my tank. HELP, what should i do i have never had this type. is it one of those alleges that start when you redo a tank or start over completely?

Yes...it does sound like Diatom's. Just the tank completing it's cycle. Make sure you are only using RO/DI water and the TDS reading should be at "0" but no higher than "1". The brown will form on the sand and rocks and is caused by die off. As nutrients are depleted, it will disappear. Be careful not to overfeed as this will contribute towards the nutrient level and make sure you are running some type of phosphate remover such as Phosban/Phosguard, etc. Also as mentioned, make sure you have good flow.

BTW...keep a close eye on your ammonia level JIC.

yes, i have good flow. i get my water from a glacier machine at publix. i used this water in my other tank and had no issues.
