So today I thought I would go ahead and load the latest firmware from the DA forum to update my RKE. I loaded the myReef 2.0 program on to my laptop and was able to bring it up and load the current revision level to the SID 2.0 device. It shows that it is at rev 02.08 which was the current level.
According to the DA site, the next step is to update the head unit. I have tried 10 times to get the myReef program to recognize the head unit but it will not work. It is connected via the USB on my laptop to the SID then to the head unit. No matter how I try to connect it, either straight from the USB port on my laptop or through a powered USB hub, it does not show up in the menu.
I opened a thread on the DA forum but thought I would ask here too since I know there are still a few RKE users out there.
If I can't get this working look for a FOR SALE thread in the next couple of hours!

Bob, the Myreef program for the RKII had a place where you had to specify the port you are going to use on the PC. Is there a coomunication set up in the program for the RKE?

Yes, I am using the short cable to attach the head unit.

Bud - it would be nice if the MyReef would allow you to update over the NET module but it does not. Have to take each component offline and upgrade the firmware individually. My Net modlue is working fine and talking to the laptop.

I may try a different laptop and see if I get any other results. I saw a few post on the DA forum where that resolved the issue I am having.
Wish me luck.

If your firmware is up to date then just do a factory reset on the head unit (in the menu on the head unit) and you should be set.

I know there was recently an update for MyReef 2.0 and the RKE and some modules that required a flash and a reset....I havent pulled the trigger on that yet myself.

You are using the V2 SID right?

Yes, using the v2 SID. I'm attempting to update all the modules since my NET module tells me firmware level is at 1.11
The DA instructions tell me to update the head unit first. Not recognizing it when I plug in to the 2.0 SID. The SID firmware updated with out a problem.

not sure what I am doing wrong.

I had a similar problem when moving to MyReef and 2.0 firmware. I had my SID updated shortly after the V2 SID was introduced, and I never used it until recently. My problem was with the SID. It would not recognize the head unit or any module I connected to it. I sent the SID back to DA and they re-flashed the SID. It worked fine after that and the update was pretty straight forward.

Also, on my computer, I found when I expanded the MyReef window to fit the entire screen, some of the buttons you need to click do not show up. I have to run MyReef in the size window that it opens with. I don't know if this is unique to my computer or a quirk with the software.

Dan, That is the exact same problem i am having. I sent the SID in over a year ago probably, shortly after they sent notification. I just took it out and tried using today. Posted to DA forum about it. I really hope that is the problem..thanks man!

Bob,

I've got a SID 2.0 that you are welcome to use. Just updated all of my components. Let me know.

Thanks Chris. I just went ahead and ordered a new one from DA. I'll see how that works. Hopefully it will take care of my problems.

well let you know if I need to borrow depending on how long it takes them to replace mine.

So I finally tried the update again. I bought a new SID 2.0 from DA and it's been sitting on my desk for over a month. I am home this week so on Monday I started the update process again. The good news is that the SID was asolutely my problem. I plugged the new SID in and it was recognized immediately by Myreef and I was able to update the flash and firmware on the headunit, SL1, Net, MLC and all the PC4s.
I did a factory reset on the head unit and the Net module. Had to reprogram all the PC4's to get them back running. It was a lot easier using the MyReef software to set them up. All but one were working fine. I still have one PC4 that, for some reason, will not program, either from the headunit or the MyReef software.

I moved on to the net application, and was having problems accessing the web page. I forgot that when you reset the Net module it reverts back to the default ID and passwrod. Once I figured that out, I was able to upload the hex and bin files, flush IE buffers, and the web page loaded successfully.

I was able to see everything on the web page but could only see status, none of the control functions were working. I also noticed that the naming I had done on the MyReef side was not being picked up by the Net page. Turns out that I had to rename in both places. Had to set up email notificatoins again, as well ads graphing.

The problem I had with the Net page not being able to modify the functions for the PC4 was fixed by setting the Comm options in the RKE headunit to allow update. It was set to the default of status. Once I made the change in the headunit, I was immediatley able to make changes from the Net page. Finally!

I still have one inoperable PC4 but it was a spare anyway so I have time to try and fix the problem.

Next steps:
1. Need to figure out how to setup a wireless gaming router so I don't have to plug my laptop in to an open port in the RKE.
2. I still need to configure my router and DSL connection to be able to use the Net module outside my local network.
3. I downloaded the iPhone App for the DA controller but I think until I figure out #2 above, this one will have to wait.

Any comments are welcome!
Bob
