I have a 75 gallon reef tank that has a very small sump. I am limited in sump size because my stand won't accommodate anything larger. The stand has 3 compartments that are 15" wide x 26" tall.

I think I have a couple of options and I am not sure which is the best way to go. The first option would be a hang on the back skimmer. This would be the least exciting option because there is already to much stuff hanging around the tank, but I would consider it if that was my best option.

The second option would be a small foot print skimmer. The maximum space available would be 7" x 6".

The third option would be a stand alone external skimmer that would require me to drill through the divider and plumb the skimmer to the sump. My thought is while this may give me the best skimmer I think this may not be affordable.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on the best way to proceed or specific skimmers that would work for this application I would greatly appreciate it.

if you can stabilize the water level in your sump, look into the Tunze skimmers (reefpacks) they're footprint is approximately 5"X5"..

it might be more beneficial to put an auto top off container in one of those sections and run one of these skimmers...

TUNZE makes some of the best stuff out there..

if I had it all to do over again.. I would have gone this route on my fish only tank.. (my reef is another story..)

I just installed an ATO in one of the sections today. Not sure I understand how that would work? The ATO has RO/DI and only dumps into the sump periodically. Can you explain?

the tunze reefpak skimmers require a specific depth of water for optimal efficiency..

you're auto top off will keep the water in the sump section consistant *if by chance you don't have a separate return section, if you do, then the return section water depth will vary with evaporation..

so I guess a picture of your sump would be best...

but again.. you should look into the tunze skimmers.. for a footprint like you've got.. they are an AWESOME option.. (and run on something like 13W)

a reef octopus recirculating should be decent DNWB-110, im running it on my 75
