Continuing with the planning for this winters 90 cube build, I have moved on to protein skimmers.

I have narrowed it down to two models that could be placed in a 30 gal sump. First model is AQUAC EV-180 and the second model is the reef octopus extreme 160.

I was hoping for some feedback from anyone that has used or are using these skimmers. Or if you have another suggestion. I am trying to Stay under $400.00 for the skimmer and skimmer pump.

$400 should get you a good sized MRC skimmer. And since they're local, you can make sure it fits!

Octopus skimmers are good too, but it's not a fair comparison to an MRC, different leagues.

If you're considering an aqua-c, definately look at the MRC skimmers. The MR-series will blow away the aqua-c, no contest. MRC uses the beckett injector for the air-water mixture whereas aqua-c uses a pinched piece of pvc (imagine putting your thumb over the end of a garden hose).

As the others have also suggested, the Ocean Force skimmers have a very small footprint & low price-point.
