I need a good Protein Skimmer for my 29 gallon tank, I have use Sea Clone in the past but on a much larger tank, any recommendations

I had an aquamaxx hob-1 on my 30 cube and it worked good. Nothing to compare it to though....

Just do water changes. A skimmer just clutters up the tank if it's HOB.. 5 gallons a week and you will be solid.

I would do 10-12, no skimmer.
You'll be fine.

Run GFO and ROX carbon. Change every two weeks. Good to go.

I thought you had to run a skimmer with GFO?

Nope, not at all.
And ROX carbon will do more than a skimmer if you have them in separate chambers in a dual reactor.

I see lots of suggestions of telling this person what to do, they didn't ask an opinion of if they should run a skimmer or not, they were looking for a skimmer and a recommendation for one. If they have live rock they can most likely hide the pump with live rock or not care if the skimmer clutters the display.

I have a 30g cube I run the Rox carbon, and gfo, plus have cheato and a skimmer. With all that filtration and every other day feeding my skimmer still pulls enough sludge out that I have to empty it every 2 weeks and I do a weekly 5gallon water change I change my gfo monthly and my rox carbon bi weekly and I don't even feed that heavy. I personally wouldn't run without a skimmer.

I have used the aqua c remora's and have had good results with them before

A skimmer provides a different function that does carbon and GFO. Do you cannot compare the two directly like that.

The remora is an awesome hob skimmer.

You might be right but I would say that most people who run small tanks automatically assume you need a skimmer. I was that way. I am planning on setting up a new tank very soon, I won't be using a skimmer and if I did it would more than likely be a Mame or another small limewood skimmer.

If you really want to run one don't check out aquatic life's I thought they were loud and pulled out very wet green tea colored sludge at best.

I run a SC-65 skimmer for my 29g that I bought off ebay. They are a knock off of a name brand skimmer for half the price and work just as good. There is a huge thread over at reef central on it.

Wat? Please....they both remove organic carbon, and the ROX carbon removes the most impurities...

Skimmers generally don't due crap comparatively. Carbon does 10 times the factor of a typical skimmer, just please use ROX carbon if u have fish that are prone to HLLE disease....

i planned on running my current 37g tank without a skimmer and it wasnt 2 weeks before i changed my mind. this is my first hob skimmer, but this aqua c remora does pretty well. and i ended up with 2 of them, so i have a spare i can sell cheap. pm me if interested

I had an Aquamaxx HOB-1 on my 29 and am actually running it on my 65 in the sump right now. It's been a good one so far.

I will trade you a rea sea hang on skimmer or a skilter for a powerhead if that works for you? Both worked great on my 29.

PM me if interested.

Dustin
