Pump size

I'm getting things ready for a tank upgrade . My question is will a mag 9.5 be enough to use as a return pump for a 175 gallon tank ? Total volume around 225.

I say you'd b fine, but it wouldn't hurt to use one a tad larger either

Go bigger. I run a 9.5 on my 120 and I don't feel it's enough

I was thinking mag 18 but wasn't sure if that would be to much.

On my 220 I am going with two mag 18 pumps

Sicce or Waterblaster for internal pumps, blueline or reeflo for external

When you calculate your head loss look for a pump that provides your desired gpm and does so somewhere in the middle of the performance curve.
