Are these two products the same thing? I could not find Hypersorb on your current product list, and thought it might have been renamed as Purigen. Looks the same and recharges the same with bleach. Thanks.

These products are not the same. Purigen is an organic scavenging resin that only removes nitrogenous organic waste and will do so before they can convert into ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. It leaves all other elements behind (metals, trace elements, other pollutants).

The Hypersorb is more comparable to a carbon. It it much more indiscriminate in what it removes. Hypersorb will remove organics, toxic vapors, and many other pollutants.

Both of these medias will change colors as they exhaust and can be regenerated with bleach and water.

Here is a helpful quote from our website:

Q: Would it be better to use HyperSorb or Purigen in a reef aquarium?

A: I would definitely prefer Purigen over Hypersorb because Purigen has a much greater capacity for organic removal in salt water than Hypersorb.

I hope this helps!
