I'm about to move my oceanic cube and the sand has been in the tank for roughly 2 years. I'm really going back and fourth on just simply reusing the sand that's in the tank. I would guess there is roughly 40lbs or so in the tank currently. I'm two hours away from any of our sponsors so it's out of the question to just go and pick up new sand. If I were to keep my current sand, I would rinse it out really well. Now, here is another question. I will be moving the tank on Saturday to my new apartment. If I decide to keep my sand, do you believe there will be a problem with putting it back in right after I rinse it out thoroughly?

you need to rinse it, and rinse it, and rinse it....I bleached mine after several good rinses then rinsed it about 20 more times then added a capful of prime for every 1/3rd of a bucket of sand and gave it a final rinse. Then I laid it all out on a tarp, raked it out to a thin layer, and let sit overnight to dry. then smell it, if it smells like bleach, rinse more with prime, if it smells like decay then it didnt get a good enough bleach...it really is a visious cycle - for 40 lb Id seek out a new bag

Yeah you're right, it's simply not worth the risk. I could always buy new sand and rinse it and ad it to the tank at a later date.

I've done it a couple times and its a lot of work for not much savings at the end of it all. I now take mine to the horseshoe pits after bleaching it out and rinsing it a couple times...
