Question Buying Pods

I have ordered a couple times from Reef2Reef on pod packs and I am wondering if you just pour them in the tank and sump or if you separate the pods / fine strainer or mesh and add in tank?
I just hate to dump water from any other source / in my tanks?
I know my pipefish and dragonets love the extra pods I just don't want to add any bad stuf to the tank.

Thanks
Shane

I put the filter floss directly into the fuge, the pods will swim out after about an hour, then I remove it. The free swimmers I strain through a coffee filter, which keeps the water out of my tank, and I simply dump them in.

This is precisely what I do.
I don't trust unknown water sources either.
I tried tearing through the floss the first few times , you can get them out but its a pain .

Their pod shipments include both amphipods and copepods, though, right? Wouldn't dumping the water make you lose virtually all the copepods? (This just hit me as I was about to enter a reply. I have always dumped my water first and then put the bags in the water.)

I have only bought pods when I first cycled the tank. I just poured everything in the tank, water and all. My tank has been running fine ever since.

Just wondering what you could add from the water that could be bad?

I dump the floss/sponge thing and everything with it right into the fuge. Anyone that claims to be worried about what might be in the water must not believe in clean up crews either. Snails hold water in them there shells. Buy a snail, and buy the water it came from. Float and dump I say. NO DRIP!

I release a little at a time....and eliminate as much water as I can....

this does nothing.......except release a little at a time...and eliminate as much water from them as possible...

I get a container filled it with tank water and released the pods into the container then strained the pods out. The water the pods came in stinks and is a cloudy gray/green color. I figured if anything the dirty water would add unnecesary organics into the tank.

I add them when the lights are off and fish are hiding/sleeping. First I open the bags and dump everything into a bowl. Then I add a little tank water to the bowl every few minutes. Pumps and powerheads get turned off. Next I dump everything into the tank except for a few sponges that go in my sump. The pods seem to like swimming in the water column so I turn on the lights for a few minutes and they swim into the rocks. Lights back off and collect the sponges later that day. Keeps my mandarin fat and happy.

I dump the whole container in, some of the pods are so small that you need a light behind the container to see them. I pay for them, my 12 wrasses, 3 mandarins(corals too)want all of them I can put in the tank. :o I don't like the dirty water either!

Throw in the pads and remove after a few hrs, wash out the bag with my tank water. All goes in...waste not want not.

+1

The water in the pod bag isn't clear because it has food for the pods in it. sometimes there will be macro algae/seagrass too.

I pour the water and floating pods through a fine fish net then add the pods to a small bucket of tank water.

Since the majority of the pods live in the sponge, I get an empty bucket and rip the sponges apart. I then add the ripped up sponges to the empty bucket. As the pods leave the dry sponge pieces in search of water, they end up in the bottom of the empty bucket. After they all have collected in the bottom of the bucket, I add them to the other bucket with existing tank water. Late at night when all lights are off, I turn off the powerheads, and add the pods to the DT...

Thank you . They are doing great. :yay: They eat all day and night so I keep adding pods but I want to make sure I don't add any bad stuff in the tank but it looks like its pretty safe.
