Question for you guys with bare bottom tanks. Do you guys paint the outside bottom of your tanks black?

would make a cool look
my brother painted the back and sides of his 120 dual overflow. came out very nice everyone should do it

That's personal opinion. I painted the bottom but as most BB people would tell you the bottom is covered in coralin algae in no time anyways.

This tank was started three weeks ago and I have no doubt in two month the bottom will not be reflective.

I just set up a 40B to try BB and I painted the outside with textured carribean sand spray paint.
I really like the way it turned out.

This tank has only been set-up for a month... There is a right way to do thing and there is a wrong way.... Don't chase numbers just know your tank and your coral/fish. The best saying ever is "nothing good comes fast in a reef tank". Small changes make the best outcome.

I think that would be a good idea. One thing about BB glass tanks that turns me off, personally, is the reflectivity of the glass. A black painted bottom would lessen that aspect. The top half of the bottom of my 465 is dark gray PVC, and one of the main reasons I decided to do this one BB.

The bottom does get covered with coralline, but parts will periodically peel off and you will be able to see the bottom.

I agree that the coralline covers it pretty quick. I have my chalices on the bottom letting them spread also along with zoas. Granted that is going to take some time to cover the bottom I think its going to have a cool look.

Try starboard material

The way mine is set up you may see the sump light if not painted.
