Question on a tank as a room divider.

Can you mod the tank to do away with the overflow toward the center of the room, and just leave the overflow that would be closest to the wall? Some glass and lots of silicone would fill the drilled holes on bottom, and a sharpe razor blade would take care of the overflow it's self.

One overflow would not detract from the look or interrupt the viewing space all that much.

you can get them to match easier and they might even look built in with the base... I would think the biggest issue would be people seeing the back of the base.. (typically, they aren't very pretty)

The stand is going to be enclosed all the way around. So it should look the same all the way around. I have not made up my mind if it will have doors on both sides or not. That way it would be easier to work on but a lot more work to build. lol

Matching would be easy especially here. Take a stained door off, go to mackey lumber, get the wood and walk next door to Porter paint and let them match a stain for ya.
Sounds like this thing hasn't been built yet though

Not yet. I am taking it a little slower this time to get it right the first time. Also I can put just a little bit of money in each week till I get it done and I am happy with it.

As far as the seahorses I never had any luck with putting any fish in with them, just a clean up crew, because the fish are much faster than the seahorses and eat all the food too fast. Maybe if you could find a coral and seahorse friendly fish that doesn't eat brine or mysis shrimp? I'm not sure what wold work. Also you have to make sure that the pumps aren't too strong for them, because they aren't very strong or fast they get sucked up to the pump easy.

I am not sure what else I can put in with them but the clownfish has been with the one seahorse for a little less than a year and they seem to be buddies.

definitely use solid wood (or trimmed plywood) panels to extend up and cover the "ugly sides" of the overflows. It could also be used as a chase for lighting or fan wiring for a canopy.

I've not seen it done but heard of people using extra dark window tinting film to cover the glass on the inside of the overflow. Might look better then paint on the outside.

I used Extra dark window tinting across the back of my tank and have not had a problem with it. I used it because it was the cheeper than paint (got it from walmart) and if i ever want to take it off i can.

Grouper therapy did a nice one for me & it's barely noticeable. That's what I wanted was to be able to see all the way through it because it is sitting behind my couch as a room divider. Now if I just had one for the kitchen lol. That is going to be next years project I'm very happy with the way he did mine & for the other end of the tank where there was no flow I have 2 Korilia's which are a 4 & a 3. Lots of flow all the way through the tank now! The thread for pics of what he did for mine is under Special thanks to grouper therapy. If I had went for a wood canopy instead of the light fixture I went with everything could have been hidden but I like mine the way it is
