Quick Help PLEASE!

Jenn,
would it be ok if I called you at your store tomm. maybe even bring the clown in for you to give him proper care? I am not looking for anything in return just want him to get better and you can have him to give him care and hopefully sell him as a healthy fish to a new home

I might be able to help - have to check with Brian (he looks after all the husbandry stuff these days).

Do ring me up tomorrow - I open at 10.

Jenn

looks like the white is starting to spread to his fins....

I fell bad as I have no way to treat him!!!

I have been in this hobby for years with big tanks and little tanks and have never had this happen before.....

It is quite discouraging!!!

Can you get a picture? That would really help.

Brooklynella can go really fast - scary fast. It's most common in clownfish, often called, "Clownfish Disease" but any fish can get it. Clowns are very prone, so are grammas.

i tried with my phone and you literally cant tell whats going on.......it looks like the clown is starting to breath a little faster/heavier than normal

Hate to say it but tomorrow may be too late.

It may already be too late... :(

I understand....Do you think I should let things play out or pull him out of the tank now? I dont have anywhere else to put him but I dont want to infect all of the other fish either......

Jenn thanks so much for all of your help tonight, if you could tell me what I should do at this point that would be a huge help!

THanks,
Tyler

I tested the AP 12 in my office today and saw a similar pH reading (acutally, guessed at the reading given that the color barely changed). Luckily the Seachem test kit comes with reference samples and they tested normally. pH extremely low for my marine tank, but my Green Star Polyps and pair of clowns were looking good and active as ever. I raised it back to 8.1 by dripping B-Ionic part A (only about 1-2 ml). I'll check it again tomorrow.

Also, the Nitrates 60-80. I removed the sponges and about 1/2 the biocubes and all ceramic media based on recommendations from many posts. Besides, I can use it to help cycle my other aquariums. Hopefully that, combined with a big water change, will straighten out the AP12 issues.

Hopefully your fish will make it through the night and you can figure out what's going on with the AP12. I'm still a noob, but let me know if I can help as I am local.

Well if you don't have another place to put the fish, there's nothing you really can do.

You could do a freshwater bath, but IME that's not really terribly effective on that ailment, and it might be more stressful than it's worth in this instance.

All of the fish are exposed. So they should all be treated whether they have symptoms or not (refer to my 'carriers' mention in earlier posts).

I'd QT them, treat them all with Formalin or Acriflavine, leave the main tank fishless for a month or so (to let the pathogen die out in the system) and then when the fish have gone through a complete treatment and after a month or so, move them back into the tank.

I'd QT everything going forward too. No matter how careful all of us are, sometimes pathogens sneak through.

I think After reading this I am setting up a 10 gal QT for emergency situations like this. Sorry Tyler. I wish there was something I could do for ya!

Smart man. I keep all the equipment inside the tank on the shelf, so if needed I can have my existing system water in it and be running in ten minutes. That way it is already up to temp, and being the same water no acclimation is necessary.

Speaking of QT, I've been in the club for a little over a year now, and mine is the only house I've actually seen a QT tank in.

I know it doesn't help you right now, but you can set up a small QT really cheap... a $12 10g tank, a small HOB filter and a heater is all you really have to have. No matter what the outcome, consider putting one together. Best of luck to you!

Stop by the store on your way to Jenns and I will give you a 10 gal with powerfilter for $20. You did move to Lawrenceville, right?

Thats because the ones that are smart enough to actually have one keep it out of sight so as not to give the fish any ideas about getting sick. :D Question, is a HOB filter good enough for a qt tank? Like bio wheel or what ever little petco complete setup deal is available? HOB skimmer a necessity or just do WC frequently while they are in QT? Maybe this would make a good mini presentation for a meeting? 20-30 min on a QT system?

yeah fishscales I did move to lawrenceville........If you remember me I was the guy that you sold the 2 eels to a long time ago!!!

it was a snowflake and a barred moray eel...

I ended up selling off all of my reef and eel set ups and moved up to lawrenceville and set up this 12 gallon....

I am actually thinking of setting up the 55 as another eel tank soon so I may be visiting you again soon!!!

Your store is very close to me now!!

IMO a HOB filter is plenty IF you keep up with water changes to keep the parameters in check... ammonia etc can get bad fast without a natural bioligical filter. Some people use LR in their QTs but that requires keeping it "up" all the time obviously, and that rock is quarantined for life itself if the tank gets any copper-based meds.

Thats service. Jenn and Chris both. Hard to argue with the 2 store owners that you KNOW care more about YOUR live stock than you do... Really. I know from experience neither will sell you something that they don't think you can keep alive. I always look forward to visiting either of them.

You have my attention.
Threadjack over, sorry to the OP!
