Quinine sulphate problems

Blasiola and others have found that copper has no effect on brooklynella.

According to the website, "DR. BRIAN HAD TRIPLE HEART BYPASSS SURGERY. OUR PHONES MAY BE TURNED OFF DUE TO THIS, BUT WE ARE STILL HERE FILLING ORDERS THE BEST WE CAN." So they may be taking orders but not doing any consultation at this time.

In my experience both do not look alike.

Brooklynella, oodinium and cryptocaryon all have pretty distinct presentations, by my eye.

Quinine is the best I know of that treats, and is documented as the most effective for, all.

Im trying half doses and doing 100% water changes every other day now. Seems to be working so far. But Ill keep the fish under observation for a few weeks after treatment just to be sure.

Well my woes continue.

after a month long treatment at half strength QS, the tangs were put in clean water and watched. 3 days later ICH.

So I put them in to a month long treatment of copper, and put them in clean water to be watched. 3 days later massive outbreak of ich.

I then tried a full dose of QS, and the next day 2 of them were swimming funny.

I removed the lot and put them in 1/2 dose of copper but Im not hopeful any will live through the weekend.

the only thing I can think of was the regal tang Ive been treating for the past SIX MONTHS, has some kind of resistant ICH that has spread to the others while in QT and while under meds.

Best of all Im leaving to go out of town today, so when I return anything left alive in my QT system will be given away and I will bleach it and start from scratch. In 6 months my QT systems have been nothing but a death pit and the only thing in common is this god **** regal tang.

The QT has a UV but you cant run it with copper, and you cant run it with QS so its kind of pointless.

There is one on my main system, but nothing with any signs of illness ever goes into the main system.

The QT should have UV. The hospital tank should not.

You said you put the fish in clean water; is this just your qt/hospital tank without any meds or do you have a separate tank as a true QT?

That's a really </em> long time for a fish to be in harsh meds. Holy frustration, Batman!

My QT setup is 2 75g tanks both divided in two. Each part can be run off the sump(with UV) or closed off to be totally separate.

When I say clean water, I mean new water from my mix tank in a closed off portion of the QT.

And yes I agree, after this much time they should not be have any problems. The only thing I can think of is a resistant strain of ich that came from that regal tang.

Gotchya.

Well, if that's the case, it won't be immune to UV. Break the cycle and you should be clear. The fish are probably quite weak by now, though. Copper is pretty harsh. But, if they're eating, I'd feed the crap out of them and put that UV to work.

Bad timing, though, as you'll have to be there to take care of the fish and the water.

No point now, once again the regal is the only survivor.

If hes alive when I get back hes going to be given away to someone with a FO system that runs copper all the time.

Daniel, if you need anything done for the tank while you are gone, just LMK. I'm only 2-3 miles away. Sorry for your continued troubles.
Dave
