Ok heres my deal im looking to upgrade from t5 lights to leds....ive decided to go with radions but trying to decide if is worth it to go ahead and get the pros vs the gen 2s..if anyone is willing to give me their opinion id appreciate it

Not for another, what, $300!

I'm sure the Radions are awesome, but they are ridiculously expensive, IMO.

Someone that has them can give you a better perspective, I'm sure.

Yes theres quite a bit of price difference..650 for gen2 and 950 for pros

I had the Radions Gen1. Didn't much care for them. I have a 36" cube and it would've take 4 of those to light it. That would've been $3000 in lights (when I had them). I changed to the Reefbreeders 24" Controllable Fixture and am very happy with them. The new layout is awesome!

I bought my leds at nemo for $250 each. My buddy has the old radions and hates them. Just my 2 cents.

Why did your buddy hate them if you don't mind me asking

He said the growth was not what he expected. And the price. But ive heard plenty of people swear by them. Dont know those people of hand. I guess u will always have an upside and downside. But for the price of them i think u could upgrade ur skimmer. Or power heads or buy coral! And get alot more

I have two Radions over a 90 and am very happy with them. I don't have them turned anywhere near max and I am getting good growth on my SPS. I should add that I haven't had any other other lighting on my tank to compare them to either. I still can't believe that I spent the money on them but it was tax return time.

If you go with a DIY set up, you will get much better results, IMO... Talk to reeferman.

My set of gen 2 radions have arrived and have exceeded my expectations and I still have a lot more to figure out but I love it for the most part!

TO THE CURRENT RADION USERS..do you mind sharing your light schedule or can u recommend a place to upload different schedules

I'm tagging along to see everyone's opinions as well. I saw a thread recently talking about the Reef Breeders Photon 32's. anyone have additional comments on that fixture?

I have had Radions, Reef Breeders and Ati power module. The Radion is the worst light of the 3, Ati is the best and for Led I would buy reef breeders all day and price is never a factor in my opinions

beccaf91;845376 wrote: Reef Breeders Photon 32 I have seen in person along with the ecoray12d both very nice lights. After seeing the radion gen 2 on Jeff's tank today I like them alot better then the reef breeders and ecoray lights. Just my opinion though.

hey chris... so ready to get home lol and thanks again for all the help!!

Far from upgrading my lights but would a Reef Breeders photon32 cover a 4'X2' 120g tank?

I'm running the Gen 1 with the TIR lens. I just added the TIR lenses and had to dial back my Radions. I've seen the MM, Ecorays, Panoramas, and AIs as well as the new Maxspect Razor. I like the Radions best, not only because I like the easy programming and custom colors, but I feel like I get plenty of power from them. I'm using two over my 58 gallon. These are by far not the cheapest lights out there and I'm sure that you can probably do just fine with LEDs half the price of the Radions but I'm happy with them. I would like to upgrade to the Pros one day but at the price they are right now that's not very likely.
Check out my thread.

I'm a DIY led nut, if you want any information on how to light your tank with led's that have more par than radions as well still having the capability of dimming and sun rise sun set affects at half the cost let me know. With a DIY build you can select custom colors as well for your lights, as the reds and greens are useless in terms of coral growth. Nuetral white leds have enough of the red/green spectrum already in them so red/greens do nothing other than add algae and color asthetic.

Things you can't do with DIY leds that you can do with radions are: having an internet based controller, thunder storms, over cast, wireless communication to vortech pumps.

I'd be happy to help out if you become interested. Despite what others have said, radions will def grow any type of coral as long as the tank parameters and maintence are in check. That's my two cents. If you like DIY projects and full customization of the different color choices and ratios of the LED's than this would be the route for you. If you just want a light fixture that you can simply plug in and use then go with radions. It just depends how much of an LED nut you are for the choice. I'm a DIY led guy for the rest of my days after properly researching the various LED fixtures and proper builds for DIY units.
