Stepson tried to help out while we were away on Vacation and made/used water at 21% instead of 25%. ( I wondered why my corals looked a little sheepish)! My question is will it have a negative effect if its done all at once (WC back to 25%) or just do it over a two week period? The next question would be w/a 75 display, 30 sump and a 10 fuge that's at 21% what would you make the 10 gal WC salinity to be around 25% when you were done? Thanks in advance,

If you use an ato just put salt water in it. Even if its mixed lower it will still bring salt levels up. Water evaporates salt does not

No ATO, still doing it the Ol fashioned way! Can't get too "automated" at once, gotta have something to $itch about!

I highly reccomend an ago. But you could still just add salt water for ato.

The biggest advantage to having an ATO is how it maintains constant salinity in the tank. The ease of not having to manually top off is just a perk. :-)

don't do it all at once.

raise it up a little each day (or even 2 times a day).

certainly a water change would be fine to raise it 1 point......

as long as you're heading in the right direction I'd say everything will survive and you'll never know the difference.
If I ever need to raise mine I just mix up some water that has really high salinity and add it little at a time.

Its probably not the safest method, but its simple and it works for me.

Make sure you calibrate your refractometer and double check. Measure twice cut once....

I've had salinity drop from guesstimating top-off amounts and not monitoring salinity. I just used salt water for top-offs until it was where I wanted to be. There we're no ill effects just raise it slowly.

I mixed to 26% 10 gal, added it and raised the overall to 24%. No ill effects noted. I will do another Sunday or Monday and get it back to 25%. An auto top off would be nice but I have a lot of questions concerning the use of 1.
